(1) These
prices were taken from major UK oil/gas suppliers during 2007. Other
suppliers may offer different prices, but are unlikely to vary by more than
10%.
(2)
Oil fired heating efficiency is difficult to determine, due to its reliance on
regular servicing. Most oil fired heaters would deliver approx 90% new falling
to approx 70% after 6 months use, and as low as 50% if un-serviced for 12
months. This can lead to high levels of unburned air borne droplets causing
pollution, and can damage produce, burning into the growing plants.
(3)
Gas heater efficiency is generally good at start (over 95%) and unless
something serious happens (dirt/dust clogging airways or component failure) it
is normally stays at around 95% even after 12 months without servicing,
contamination issues are rare when using gas.
(4) A new Bunded
Oil Storage Tank could cost £3,500. Gas tanks are normally supplied
& maintained for a small service charge. Servicing of Oil units almost
always takes more time and is therefore more costly than Gas heaters. This is
definitely the case with the Maywick SS225 XL as servicing takes a few
minutes.
